Made In Asia - Brussels (BE) 1-3-2026
This convention came onto my planning as a total surprise, because the reason to go there came as a total surprise.
This convention came onto my planning as a total surprise, because the reason to go there came as a total surprise.
When I saw the announcement for Geek Village I just couldn't help myself. The price was good, the distance not too far, the date was free and they also had a special offer with goodies for early birds? Sign me up!
When I saw the notification that the amazing team of Cosplaycloud was organizing an ice skating meet I was all ears! I absolutely love ice skating and since I'm feeling more and more comfortable in the cosplay community I thought this would be a great opportunity to get to meet some more people outside the conventions and have some fun.
I didn't have any more conventions planned until Geek Village at the end of year, when this one was recommended to me by a friend. Fun fact: I used to live less than 10 km away from La Louvière for 4 years and didn't even know they had a cosplay convention going on! Since the ticket prices were really low I decided to take a weekend ticket and use the opportunity to visit some friends back there too. It's a win-win situation!
For what would be one of my last conventions of the year, I wanted to think outside of the box since the weekend of Facts was already booked full and the ticket prices from DCC were just insane. I had already cancelled Made In Asia in spring and I thought it would be nice to give it a chance this time!
So I'd been debating a long time to go to Japan Day and it took me until 5 days before the actual con to make a decision on going or not. I wanted to go because it was a new con for me, ticket prices were decent and Liège is pretty doable by car. The only things holding me back were, well, finances and the fact that I had plans for basically all of my weekends in October and November and I do really need some rest at some point. But, after receiving very bad news just the week before the con I decided that I really needed a getaway and bring some positivity back around. Thankfully the ticket prices hadn't gone up much so I said to heck with the finances and onwards to fun stuff!
While browsing the Cosplaycloud Facebook group I saw a post from Marjolein Tap from StudioMT where she was asking for models in costumes for a photoshoot workshop for two days. It was not far away and since I don't have many photoshoot opportunities I decided to ask if they still needed people. The post was already over a week old and the shoot was the next weekend so I didn't dare to have high hopes, but thankfully they still needed people so I picked my best swirly costume and hit the road!
This amazing opportunity came to me by surprise when I was having a chat with the photographers from Cosplaycloud at Atsusacon. I had never heard of the Japanese Garden in Hasselt, let alone of a two-day cosplay festival where the perimeters of the garden are open for photoshoots! Of course this was a no-brainer so tickets were bought and a new costume was commenced!
As amazing as comiccons are, fantasy fairs have a special place in my heart. I love everything whimsical and natural, characters like witches, trolls, pixies, Vikings, steampunk and pirates are very high up my appreciation ladder!
First time Atsusacon! At first I didn't want to go because it's a 2 hour drive and I get really tired during the day so the trip back could be a problem, but when I saw there would be a Costume Competition and a Cosplaycloud photoshoot I just had to go!
This was my first time visiting Starcom in Gent. I learned about it via Instagram, because Cosplaycloud promoted their photoshoots at the con. Since I rarely get the chance to do proper photoshoots with professionals, I signed up for the waterfall shoot in my Mihawk cosplay!
Dutch Comic Con, the classic. My very first con on my own, by myself. There would be a Star Wars group photo so I decided to bring Ahsoka!
VikingFest was something completely different and super awesome. It was held in the historical open air museum in Eindhoven, and focused completely on the original and authentic ways of the Vikings!
My brother was going to Comiccon Holland with some friends, and when I saw it was on Star Wars Day I simply couldn't resist and got tickets. That, of course, meant going in a Star Wars cosplay and since I love making unconventional things I picked Ahsoka Tano in her outfit from Star Wars Rebels!
One of my favorite conventions, Facts. Big, lots of cosplayers, lots of shops, lots of everything and of course the photobooth. It was a last minute decision to go (I think 3 days before the con I bought my tickets) and I asked my little brother to come along!
It would've been a first to visit Made In Asia, and I had my tickets way in advance, but since I had a holiday pop up and the flight would be the day after MIA I decided to forfeit so I would be fresh for the flight.
My little brother is a big fan of Japan and One Piece and he told me he'd like to visit a convention someday, so I invited him to Japan Con for his birthday. Moving back to the Netherlands meant that Belgian cons were a bit further, but 1.5 hours driving was still doable. Japan con calls for samurai, so Suki was the obvious choice!
Since DCC in spring was so nice, my friend and I decided to go to the autumn version too. Just for jokes and to test the Dutch cultural inheritance we took Patsy and King Arthur along!
Almost a tradition now, my friend and I got tickets for Facts. It's really not that far from where I live in Belgium and it's huge and well organized to it's a very nice convention to visit!
Comic Con Brussels was unplanned. I had friends from Slovakia coming over, but when I saw that the one and only sir John Cleese was coming I had to tell my friend about it. Luckily my friends from Slovakia really wanted to visit a convention too, so tickets were booked and the plan for a Monty Python cosplay took off!
I don't think I ever drove this far for a convention. When I mentioned to my friend, who is a huge fan, that Kamui Cosplay was coming to do a panel and judge the cosplay competition she was almost blowing up so we had no choice but to go. Luckily it was a tiny bit closer from the south of Belgium, but still 2.5 hours driving, single trip. I saw that there would be a One Piece fanbase so took Mihawk along for his first con!
A friend of my friend is a diehard Castlefest visitor so we decided to try it out. No anime, all fairycore and fantasy, something really up my alley so I was very looking forward to it. Fantasy and magic called for the Mad Hatter and in hindsight I couldn't have picked a better cosplay for this occasion!
My first Dutch convention: DCC! Since this was a 3 hour drive for me I had a little sleepover with my friend before hitting the road in the morning and going to the biggest con of The Netherlands!
My second convention! Facts hit such a good spot last time that me and my friend decided to go to the spring edition!
My very first convention! I've wanted to do cosplay for a very long time but I never had the guts to actually start and go to cons (public opinions on cosplay and such things), but my friend persuaded me and Facts is the first in (hopefully) a long list of conventions that I visit!
