When I saw the announcement for Geek Village I just couldn't help myself. The price was good, the distance not too far, the date was free and they also had a special offer with goodies for early birds? Sign me up!
It'll be my first time visiting Geek Village and after seeing pictures from the Summer Festival I have high hopes. For comfort reasons I decided to bring the Hatter to my end-of-year-convention!
Right off the bat I walked into a fire-breathing pirate show, and amazing was an understatement! After the show I met up with a friend and we joined a sword fighting masterclass, which was super fun even though I was really bad at it. I found a stand with amazing crystals and had a super nice chat with the owner, who gave me another sticker for my sewing machine! I ended up doing about 5 tours of all the stands, found my favourite fudge shop again (yay!) and was actually having so much fun that I forgot to take pictures during the day. At the end of the day there was a second, more fiery pirate show and I met Jack Sparrow! He called me fellow Johnny Depp and even offered me a beer (which I respectfully declined since I don't drink alcohol) and that was definitely one of the highlights of my cosplay adventure so far!
There was food, fun, friends, cosplay competitions, crystals, two fire breathing pirate shows and mermaids. It was a lot, it was awesome, it was overwhelming (in a positive way); it was everything I had hoped for and more! I will definitely add Geek Village to my list of favourite conventions and I really hope I can make it to the summer version in 2026!
