My little brother is a big fan of Japan and One Piece and he told me he'd like to visit a convention someday, so I invited him to Japan Con for his birthday. Moving back to the Netherlands meant that Belgian cons were a bit further, but 1.5 hours driving was still doable. Japan con calls for samurai, so Suki was the obvious choice!
Since I had to go to the hairdresser just before, I decided to do a rigorous thing and cut my hair to Suki length to avoid a wig (that's 50 cm of hair chopped off!) and my god what a relief to not wear a wig! The layers of the kimono and the leather armour are really warm so the fresh air on my head was very welcome.
Right off the bat I saw the most awesome samurai cosplay I ever encountered, and after some convincing from my brother I took a few pictures with him. The detail on his work was amazing and I was super happy to find a fellow samurai!
This was the first time that I visited a con with my brother and without my friend and it was so different (my friend and I no longer go to cons together). My brother really liked to engage in things so we watched traditional Chinese ribbon dancing, listened to a Japanese drum band and joined the sword fighting workshop (he kicked my butt very hard but shhh). It was a lot of fun and made me see that conventions are not just running around and buying things but also having fun and engaging in activities that you normally can't or won't. It was also the second time I took a seat and properly ate (normally it was snackies while walking) and getting some good food in you and taking a small break just really makes the day better! Also, I found the fudge shop again!
A photographer came by at the end and took pictures of me and my brother together so I have a really nice souvenir of this great day!
