While browsing the Cosplaycloud Facebook group I saw a post from Marjolein Tap from StudioMT where she was asking for models in costumes for a photoshoot workshop for two days. It was not far away and since I don't have many photoshoot opportunities I decided to ask if they still needed people. The post was already over a week old and the shoot was the next weekend so I didn't dare to have high hopes, but thankfully they still needed people so I picked my best swirly costume and hit the road!
The concept of the photoshoots was great: each model had a shoot with three photographers in Heusden, a small fortress village in the shape of a star with a harbour, windmills, cannons and tons of small streets and old houses. I had brought my Hatter for the first day, even crocheted an umbrella because it was supposed to rain (hint: it was sunny all weekend) and I was so happy with this choice! The small streets, cobblestones and overall aesthetic of the village fitted so well with my Hatter. The photographers were all super kind, super helpful with posing and finding good spots and the whole vibe was so relaxed and professional! I was already looking forward to the next day and I decided in the car home that I would bring a different costume because this opportunity with good photographers and an amazing setting was too amazing to let it slip!
The next day I decided on Mihawk because I thought he would fit well in the village too, plus Mihawk is just a super nice costume wit the long coat and feathery hat. I brought Yoru too (unfortunately he didn't make it for the third shoot) and my mum because the weather was super nice again and she was good with a day out and about. Again, super well organized with three great photographers and amazing settings. I found the cannons and was so excited to get a picture of Mihawk with an actual cannon!
This experience was so nice and so different from the cons: all the focus was on the costume and taking pictures in settings and poses that would do justice for the character. It was amazing to learn more about modeling, how to pose and what not to do, get tips from a professional photographer and of course the amazing results! If I would ever be able to do this again there would be no doubt in my mind, so well organized and such lovely people!
