Monkey D. Luffy - One Piece
The Inspiration
Luffy was cosplayed as kind of a gag.
I got invited to celebrate Carnaval with a colleague, and of course I needed an outfit. I have a bunch of outfits from previous Carnavals but since I just got into One Piece I decided to do the logical thing and go for Luffy in a closet cosplay!
Simple, fast and most important of all: beer- and party resistant!
The Making Of The Costume
I don't think I'll ever have an easier cosplay than Luffy!
I actually had a half-long pair of jeans with a grain/leaf pattern embroidered on the side seams. It's girly and a nice tough but ever since I thrifted them I never wore them so I decided to sacrifice them for Luffy.
It took me exactly one trip to the thrift shop to find everything I needed. My first stop were the hats and even though I was prepared to make a sacrifice and get a hat that was not woven, I actually found a woven straw hat! The craft section gave me a nice woven ribbon in a bright red colour so my hat was complete.
The top is actually a small bolero jacket. It had buttons and frilly edges on the sleeves and bottom so it came home with me. The sash was a final find and the colour was perfect!
At home I glued the ribbon on the hat and added a small black string so I could hang it on my back. Then I experimented a bit with the length of the pants. I rolled the hems up and eventually found halfway up my calf the best length. All this took me not much more than 15 minutes!
Because Carnaval is in winter time, I wore Luffy with a skin-coloured turtleneck shirt and beige combat boots to stay warm, but for the summertime it's just the bolero and bare feet!
