VikingFest - Eindhoven (NL) 7-6-2025

VikingFest was something completely different and super awesome. It was held in the historical open air museum in Eindhoven, and focused completely on the original and authentic ways of the Vikings!

My mum really wanted to go so of course I joined! My brother had ordered a bunch of woodworking chisels from the blacksmith there which he could pick up so he also joined us.

VikingFest, of course, called for a Viking outfit. Together with my mum I started working and we made our own dresses, aprons and accessories according to Norse traditions, historical findings and our personal experience on our holiday in Norway in April. My mum even made a pair of leather shoes!

Unfortunately it regularly rained heavily during the day, but that certainly didn't kill the mood (although it made me happy that I wore my stable boots and not handmade leather shoes)! All the vendors and craftsmen were dressed in traditional clothes, they worked their crafts for everybody to see and they performed real Viking fights. I really had to hold back to not buy all the hand spun skeins of wool, the sheepskins and the hairbeads. I did get a traditional nalbinding needle from my mum so I have a new craft to try!

We finished the day with some authentic fries, sunshine and a few pictures at the lake. It was amazing to see so many people dedicated to keep these traditions alive and blooming!
