As amazing as comiccons are, fantasy fairs have a special place in my heart. I love everything whimsical and natural, characters like witches, trolls, pixies, Vikings, steampunk and pirates are very high up my appreciation ladder!
Since Elfia and Castlefest were sold out this summer I was thinking about Elftopia. I heard amazing things about it, but since it's even farther than Gent it would be really difficult to make it in a day so I kinda gave up on it. However, when my mum heard of it she got super excited and offered to turn it into a mum-daughter weekend trip with a night at a hotel so suddenly this amazing weekend was on!
The drive was quite a thing, because it took us almost 4 hours to even get to Elftopia (gotta love traffic jams). But as soon as we arrived we realized it was really worth it! We started the day with a nice platter of fried seafood, after which we browsed the stands. The weather was boiling hot so I ended up taking off my fur capelet quite fast and we had a little picnic on the lawns of the castle. Even though we didn't stay very long the first day it was still great to meet a few people that I saw before at cons and have a chat with them!
The next day we had some more fixed plans: the day before I had spotted a bumblebee brooch that I really wanted to get, we both wanted to check out the gemstone shop (I got this a-ma-zing crystal too!) and my mum wanted to inspect the wandmaking workshop. On top of that I hoped to run into the Cosplaycloud photographers because I hadn't found them the first day, and about half an hour after we arrived they stopped us for pictures! We saw many amazing outfits and it was fun to just relax in the grass and observe the people and their amazingly crafted costumes.
At the end of the day we both got an Elftopia token, a superb little reminder of this awesome weekend!
